Do you mean like how BeOS did things?
Sorry, never played with BeOS so I don't know how they did it :)

i don't know, i still think the Gran Turismo series is the best as far as real driving simulation. by far. and the number of copies sold backs that up
given that its been out for 10 years, i think it would have sold a fair few no matter what  i preferred GT3 A-Spec over anything else.
yeah i still might pre-order the special edition one. i'm not sure yet
do we have an official date yet? or will that be pushed back too :D

I've been looking at the Treo, but they're not easy to come by for Vodafone contract, if at all.
And they suck - I had a 600, which fell into the water and was replaced by insurance with a 650, which is only marginally better.
I don't believe the rumor - Steve wouldn't blab, he just wouldn't.
We only have a month to wait, though. :)

As Apple applied for the trademark, it will not be approved.
It is up to Apple how they want to proceed. A fight that can't win, no matter how much money they have.
Mac Pro has been the premier Mac dealer in the same county as Apple since 1988. Out of all the names for this new line of computers, why choose one that they know they cannot have.
We are already getting countless support calls for the macbook pro. It seems they assume we made them When we can't help them, they seem to get very upset.
Mac Pro is in a position to file for a court order not to release any computer that bears our name.
So get ready WWDC, we will be watching.

I read the link, and it give no mention of the speeds of the notebook chips. It only gives a range for the desktop chips. Maybe you didn't read it.
If you read the linked articled you will find the answer.
Also, right from the macrumors page is a quote that says, "Core 2 Duo runs at slower clock speeds than Pentium-era chips, but is still more productive because it handles more calculations per clock cycle." I think that would show that this has nothing to do with the Mhz myth but is the opposite.
When did Apple have pentium-era chips in their machines?

The point is that Apple doesn't have an option for potential buyers that want a high performance, customisable and upgradable consumer level product (not all-in-one). There are no Apple product to compare those $1199 Conroe PCs to. The closest thing is the iMac.
Exactly. As I said above, a PowerMac is overkill (on both price and power) for many users. The iMac might suit their needs from this perspective, however many people do not like the fact that they are not upgradeable (apart from the RAM). What if I want a larger HDD in my iMac? What if I want two HDDs? What if I want to swap in a new burner? What if the HDD fails? It would be nice to pop a new one in, not have to buy a whole new machine. And then there's the display. If the HDD goes, as in my example above, how many people would like to throw away that nice 20" display which still works perfectly? Or, vice versa, what if the display goes? The rest of the computer is perfectly fine...
A Conroe mini-tower would be perfect for many people. The gap between Mac mini/iMac and PowerMac is simply too large for many people.

Not a chance in the near future. Blu Ray and Sony are in utter shambles right now.
Sony really is in shambles... what is wrong with that company? They've really lost any focus they might have had and some terrible ideas in have come and inevitably gone. (Will the PS3 be next?).

What would you suggest as an alternative to "successor" to describe these future chips?
The normally accepted definition of successor is one who replaces the one that came before it (as in succession).
The normally accepted definition of "next generation" in this field implies a new architecture (aka Core 2 to Core 3, or G4 to G5).
Kentfield and Clovertown are simply a different packaging of the Conroe and Woodcrest... putting multiple Conroe or Woodcrest chips into a multiple-chip module (MCM).
Not trying to quibble just make sure folks don't read things incorrectly.

I'm not so sure about the down res option, it sounds like an awful lot of time spent compressing, though I sure hope it is some type of interface, perhaps as an input device or palette.
I love to see an iPad become the proxy editor for FCP. Or the ability to access and edit raw media from a server with steaming so it's not neccessarily taxing iPad's processor.

I wish they would leave it on and let me use it. I consider it a feature. It would help me track hours at job sites automatically for billing. I thought of writing an app just for that.

As with many FCP users, I am very accustomed to the entire FCP workflow. The editing is awesome and fuss-free. Of course, there are always complaints. Compressor constantly gets low grades. Transcoding is painful to some. Nevertheless, FCP can activate multiple events so the computer can process these things unattended as I frolic in the park or do other things.
I've tried Premiere Pro and Sony Vegas. I have Premiere Elements 9 on hand if I need native AVCHD editing. But FCP has the guts I prefer. It's akin to my excursion from Pro Tools to Logic Pro. Ultimately I returned to Pro Tools for the editing features, irrespectively of the realtime bounce.
'hoping that the FCP upgrade next week is stellar. It will be painful to switch to another NLE.

I'm all in for something new in Video Editing. I find that FCP is way too old and clunky, and Premiere is the same thing with a better interface. I rarely use the Viewer anymore, and I hate having to render. I hate the various pixel aspect ratios and formats there are, including PAL and NTSC. I still think tape cameras are the best in quality, but the practicality of recording on a card or a hard drive will soon beat that.
There has to be a performance and workflow improvement, as syncing sound to video precisely is near impossible due to the huge amounts of lag.
This sounds like an interesting update!

"Lying" implies intent. Are you accusing them of lying, or getting it wrong?
We could consider the events surrounding the conviction of I. Lewis Libby. While not conclusive, they strongly suggest mischief at the very least.
... I should EXPECT people to be more critical of the other side.
As I recall, in that time period, to be critical of the administration was to be branded un- or anti-American. How do you feel about Cindy Sheehan? Most right-wing types I know have a basket of tasty epithets for her.
It's much easier than actually addressing your real views... it's a defense mechanism which she uses to avoid serious debate.
I keep seeing these pointless ad hominems popping up in your posts. It really is getting tiresome.

Just looked at the shpping dates for the Core 2 Duo's listed on the dell site. There's an estimated shipping date of 11th September, so maybe the 5th is a more releastic release date for Apple's merom upgrade, whatever form it may come in.
Recently Apple's made new products avaliable to buy immediately they are announced. So looks like a little more waiting.
I'm hoping for a Macbook with Core 2 Duo 2GHz!!

completely blown out of proportion!
The data is sent anonymously and doesnt give you an accurate pinpoint of where you are if any indication of where you are. Its not exactly used to come and get you if you have been somewhere you shouldnt have been  so kick back and relax.
Way too much fuss about nothing personally! :p

Proof that Samsung ripped off Apple's rip off of Delicious Library?
Apple hired the young fellow that did the UI for delicious library... sadly his name escapes me at the moment. But yeah, the kid brought is book shelves with him.;)
