If the Core 2 Duo hits tomorrow I'm buying!
Does anybody have a link to a site that can help me set it up to run windows and os x as optimized as possible? Somebody sent me a link to some mac rumors guides, but nothing that really contained info about setting up the os such as proper partitioning, etc. I heard recently some information about not using the admin account as your primary, etc. I need more tips like this.
I don't mind if it takes me a week to set the thing up, I just want it set up for the longest future possible.
Any info is appreciated!

Can anybody running Leopard confirm what users/groups have write privileges to Safari, Mail, & etc.
Just want to clarify if the permissions on that Leopard system have been modified?

Do no buckle to these power hungry tyrants Samsung. The stinger you fight, the more I will buy your products in the future.
LOL! Why do you have a problem with companies trying to protect their intellectual property?
At least Apple didn't wait years to file suit and if you remember, they did file many patents on the iPhone when it was introduced. They have every right to protect their IP.
But I know... this goes against your anti-Apple ranting.

As others have said, it looks like it was more than a simple smash and grab...the suspects appear to have been armed. I'm sure as the day goes by we'll get more of an idea of what happened.
From the article:
Two men and woman apparently did a "smash and grab," in which glass doors and windows are broken and merchandise is grabbed quickly, CVPD Capt. Gary Facicci said.
A private armed security guard interrupted the burglars and at some point, gunfire was exchanged with the two male burglars, who were also armed, Facicci said.
The male suspects and their alleged female accomplice then got into a vehicle that crashed while still inside the shopping mall, Facicci said, noting that one of the men was driving and he died in the crash. Reports from the scene indicate he had been shot in the head.
The getaway vehicle crashed into a wall at the mall.
The second male suspect and female were arrested at the scene, Facicci said. Both were described as being in their mid-20s.

Since 1984:
Cmd-X = Cut
Cmd-C = Copy
Cmd-V = Paste
Grab will snap a picture of a window, the entire screen etc. There is also print to PDF.
I'm pretty sure he was referring to cut and paste in finder and "windows snap" is where you can snap two windows side by side easily- it is a great feature in W7 and I hope Apple incorporate it in some way.

I hate this cloud crap. All just an excuse to take away the consumers control of what they buy or use.
We need a boycott.
I believe any new innovation is designed specifically to be a personal imposition on me, regardless of how fanciful my assumptions.

I think that's pretty accurate (well observed) whichever side of this particular fence people are sitting.
Yeah, but what is currently out there that's better?

There is nothing unusual with this move, I dont know why it keeps coming up. In fact, its strategic on Creative's part to include it in the settlement. They make good headphones and speakers, and if affixing a 'Made for iPod' tag on them increases revenue, they have nothing to lose. Total profit
I understand that, but I thought Apple would've just bought creative or won the lawsuit. Either way, Steve did not sound happy.

The problem with stolen Apple products would be no Applecare.
Anyway, these mall cops should carry Taser Apps on their iphones.
Don't they sell Applecare in their stores in the form of boxes? Maybe not, I don't know, but I've seen a bunch of them laying on shelves at Target before.

I swear, this guy never seems happy about anything. I seem to recall him saying this for other product releases... $10 says he'll say it again once the MBA is released.
I have a friend who swears Apple is gonna turn the MBP into a big MBA. He's pissed and moaned about the 15" loosing the express slot and "forced" him to get the new Sandy Bridge 17" MBP... He doesn't use the slot. He says he simply wants the comfort of knowing he has it if he ever wanted to use it.
His latest rage is that the next MBP won't have a DVD slot. I forgot my Macs even had a DVD slot but I guess that's the difference between us.
USB3 is dead tech. You'll never see it on a Mac. Would be VERY surprised to see eSATA, as well.
Huh? Where are you getting the idea it's "dead tech"? We just started to see USB 3 thumb drives and HDDs.
I obviously see Thunderbolt's (I hate that new name) superiority. But that doesn't mean consumers do. They eat what they are fed. That's why I said Apple and Intel have to force Thunderbolt into the light and into their computers. If Apple does it first and is noted for having the fastest stuff because they went the extra step people/companies will follow.

I'm not saying it WON'T incorporate any liquid metal, but I'm pretty damn certain the chassis won't be built out of it, it uses very expensive precious metals to manufacture liquid metal and making a LM Unibody just doesn't make sense.
I think we are likely to see another aluminum unibody, but without optical drive and HOPEFULLY with both an Air style blade SSD and a slot for a standard 2.5" hard drive. Add thunderbolt (and hopefully a third party TB to firewire hub of some sort), remove FireWire, remove optical, call it a day. That would be a very, very solid update.

Sounds like he doesn't drive, and just wanted this topic for attention. But I could be wrong..
On the other note. You wonder why insurance for young/new drivers is so high.
I'm taking my test on the 24th May (UK), my insurance has been quoted to me at 1700.00 for the year. This is because I am male, and 20. So I must be a "racer boy"... I'm not sure what it's like in America. But the reason I get quoted that kind of insurance is because of drivers like you. It's very irresponsible of you to drive like that, and then brag about it. But I don't think it even happened.

This adds nothing to the discussion but at first I thought - "shoot" I just got my 27" iMac in January! Then I remembered I bought a "refurb" so I'd have to wait at least another 3 months before the new models started to show up in the refurb store. And with 12GB of RAM my i7 is by far the best computer I have ever owned, fast, quiet, and what a beautiful screen!
Like my iPad1, going to skip this generation and wait for the next.

I agree with you. if someone is drunk and is still able to operate the app they could be a hazard if they avoid these points.

it's quite gimmicky to only talk about interface transfer rates when the real performance is dependent on the hard drives.
Well, the discussion is about interface - point being that Thunderbolt-enabled devices will be available soon (days vs. years per the snide remark). Indeed, if the drives aren't fast enough to keep up then yes the bottleneck will be the drives - so the bottleneck won't be the interface, and the bottleneck won't be lack of anything to plug into the Mac's Thunderbolt port.
Funny how people will ignore the overarching real win to pick at a minor theoretical fail. There WILL be a bottleneck somewhere in the processor/memory/local-storage/interface/buffer/external-storage data chain short of perfect balance; I'm glad you're satisfied you'll always have something to point at and go "Ha-ha!". Twit.
ETA: Two 500GB 7200RPM RAID 0 drives should be pretty fast. Quick check on a random such drive and kicking around some numbers gives around 2GB/s sustained. Fine, you win, we can transfer that HD movie in 2.5 minutes instead of 30 seconds ... unless, say, we daisy-chain 5 of these LaCie drives together to saturate the pipeline. You have an application where this matters?

Sometimes it helps to do a quick search. ;)
They do have surround sound support. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304277#faq26)
Yes, they have surround sound, but not Dolby Digital. Quicktime can't even decode 5.1 audio (you need a third party plugin (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27300) for that.)

Yeah, let's all waste time worrying about a "possible" threat that hasn't proved to be any significant danger in the wild. It's even better that we can worry about it in an obsolete version of the OS!

What I find most interesting is that fact the Creative is joining the Made for iPod program and will be producing its own iPod accessories.
Definitely interesting......now I'll just have to remember to never buy Creative products :) I like Apple not Creative........so why support a company I do not like that sued a company I do like and got $100 million in a lawsuit over a BS patent.

Wow, your mom willingly caused a wreck, sued the guy, and you are proud of it. Man, you and your family are just pathetic.
I really don't think it is necessary to call me or any member of my family "pathetic." There's nothing wrong with manipulating the system to your advantage, if you do it for a valid purpose (such as teaching a crappy driver a lesson).

Unless someone uses the system against you and to their advantage, then I bet you'd lose your cool and be crying foul.
