I don't know if I buy this whole shortage thing.
If there is such a big shortage, why aren't people/businesses creating more production plants and capitalizing on the demand (which is only getting started from the looks of it). Where there is serious demand there is serious $$$ to be made!
It seems like basic economics to me but I've been wrong before...
There was no production of these screens two years ago. The demand has far outrstripped any expectations anyone would have had 3 years ago. It takes time to get new plants online.
I suspect Apple's long-term contracts with suppliers include future factories and production being brought online to help boost their ability to provide screens. It takes time though.

I look forward to the day that Apple releases retina displays for the MBP. Something else that would set :apple: apart.

I see the short sighted Apple pom-pom shakers are once again giddy with excitement. The juvenile remarks are embarrassing.
For some strange reason you think monopolies are good for consumers.

I guess I can see Apple's point. But, aren't all tablets going to have a similar style and interface? It would seem like there can be only marginal differences in a touch screen interface.
And that tab does not look like Apple's style! Where's the sleekness? Where's the smooth lines? Where's the unibody? Where's the subtle curves? Where's the... you get my point. Yuck! That Samsung tablet doesn't seem very Apple-esque! Surmise lawsuit will be settled out of court for first dibs on displays and flash memory or better contract terms on parts Apple buys from Samsung. :apple:

something to remember about product update cycles:
iSight iMac G5 came out in October '05, Intel iMac came out just 3 months later... in January '06.
just thought I should remind everyone.
Remind us about what? Please be a little less cryptic because some people are tired here :p

Who thinks that what happens locally is what only matters is still 'living' in medieval times.
Your so beloved Apple products are produced using mm and fractions of them, and then their specs are "translated" to the proper local units for marketing and local people understanding.
We all live in the same planet, but we are so different.
Like nowadays communicating in English is the common international language, some centuries/years ago was Latin, or French, Portuguese, Spanish, German, Mongol, Chinese, etc...
Similarly with the units of measurement, depending on the region they will become popular or the well known standard that most of the people understand and agrees upon using by default.
Having a clear communication is a key for progress, and even two people think they are speaking in the same language they understand two different things.
What units are used in the Olympic games?
Formula 1 ?
So when you travel it doesn't matter? How many liters of beer are you buying?
How high that building or mountain is?
How far places are?
How much fuel will you need? How much money will you need?
What the temperature is where you are going?
If you do poorly with this basic things, how do you handle currency conversions, when you buy things? You are missing a lit of good things that are out there waiting for you, just because you want to stick with your localized thinking.

what do you mean, with 64-bit software or 32-bit software?
Not to be rude, but are you really dumb enough to ask this? Ok, I'll try to make this as simple as possible: if I used a fully 64-bit OS & fully 64-bit software, that is software optimized for 64-bit processors, on a fully 64-bit processor, what would the advantage of using that set-up over using a 32-bit OS & 32-bit software on a 32-bit processor?

I think we can all agree that there is a lot of waste in government. The fact is, a lot of it is hard to find.
I'd try to take the time to find it.
There are people who specialize in that.
Let them loose. See what they find.

3. Moyank24 : Beatrice COUPLE
4. ucfgrad93 : Rhon ADVENTURER
5. appleguy123 : Wilmer ADVENTURER
6. Don't panic : Loras ADVENTURER
7. Plutonius : Jorah ADVENTURER
8. mscriv : ??? VILLAIN
Loras, still with the confidence of the party behind him, declared that they would continue into the next room.
The torch cast a soft light across the stone floor, but no features were immediately apparent. As they began to walk in, the group heard a sick sucking sound followed by a rhythmic rasping.
"Stay close" Rosius said confidently, his eyes trying to pierce the darkness the torch would not. The group edged forward as the adventurers drew their swords with the couple bringing up the rear.
A leg suddenly appeared at the edge of the torchlight as something scurried past. The adventurers fanned out and formed a semi-circle about the party as they prepared to meet their foe. They could hear the creature scurrying about, apparently coming from all directions. "Steady, he's just testing our defense," Rhon confidently declared.
Then, it brushed Wilmer. He quickly did a 180 and tried to follow the shadow as it ran out of sight. Emboldened, he charged into the darkness in the direction he thought the creature went.
"Wilmer, NO!" Loras charged forward in an attempt to cast the torchlight on his charging comrade. The group then heard the clang of steel on stone behind them punctuated by grunts and screeches. It ended with a heavy thud and a deep sigh.
The party whirled around and hurried forward to the sound. There, they found Wilmer's lifeless body.
"Oh god, what did it!" Beatrice was on the verge of screeching as she struggled to keep her voice from breaking. Rosius stepped forward, took the torch from Loras wordlessly, and inspected the corpse.
He stood back up, turned and handed the torch back to Loras. The collective gaze on him asked the question for them. He was dead.
Rhon stole the torch and charged into the darkness, leaving the remaining heroes. They saw him meet his opponent and kill it with a single swing of the sword, beheading it.
He returned with its head and threw it at their feet, spitting on it as it stopped rolling. "Goblin."
Wilmer (appleguy123) has died. It is now the villain's turn. All the surviving heroes have leveled up.

I don't understand, Apple can't let RIM have 12 panels? When they sell off those 12 units, Apple can let them have 12 more.
Lol... if they let RIM have 12, then they'll have to let everyone have 12!

Yo! check out this key clause to Amazon's Terms Of Use >
5.2.Our Right to Access Your Files.
You give us the right to access, retain, use and disclose your account information and Your Files: to provide you with technical support and address technical issues; to investigate compliance with the terms of this Agreement, enforce the terms of this Agreement and protect the Service and its users from fraud or security threats; or as we determine is necessary to provide the Service or comply with applicable law.
WTF ???!!!
Thank you for digging that out. Obviously no one should ever use this. Uploading your stuff to their servers = unlimited access by them to your stuff.
Great. No thanks, Amazon. Not that I trust Apple more than you (I don't), but you make it clear that you likely will access people's documents, files, photos, audio.
You'll get the dumb squad to sign up for your crap. They always come out whenever there is something bad to sign up for.

Why not? Conroe will have availability by WWDC, IIRC, and Merom won't be far behind- they could announce a MBP with Merom, shipping in two weeks after WWDC.
MBP with Merom, iMac with Conroe, Mac Pro's with either Conroe and a Woodcrest quad or all Woodcrest, MacBook's with Merom or Yonah w/price drop, and Mac Mini price drop back to $499.
It sounds very plausible plus didn't Apple say with the introduction of Intel Processers there would be more hardware updates through the year?
Even so I'm up for the entire line update :D

They really should offer some services that Mobileme provides are part of the regular mac os experience (more specifically syncing of calendars & email, for those that dont use imap)
Seems like it should be in OSX
MobileMe contains an imap account and other service like Gmail are imap.
If you need email on more than 1 device, pop is crap anyway.

lol I take it you DO think they look very similar. I see that they both use icons in a grid format. So tell me, what exactly are you suggesting would give LG the grounds for any kind of lawsuit? Or is it just the icons and grid (the rest of which has been done with phone interfaces before)?
And if you still think LG would theoretically have a case, refer to babbit's post:
I am not suggesting that LG has any merits for such lawsuit at all. I am suggesting the opposite - that Apple does not have any merits either.

But if Apple becomes the dominant player because, heck, they're so big that they can simply BUY THEIR WAY to the top, then that's not really fair for anybody, is it?
Nice straw man. Apple didn't buy their way to the top. Years ago when the whole world was busy designing netbooks, Apple was polishing the iPad. They knew the product would be a hit and that component supply was a potential problem, so they secured their supply for the long-term. It's called planning and foresight. Their strategy was not without risk - if the iPad didn't catch on then Apple would be sitting on millions of displays and unable to move them.
If RIM wanted easy access to components then they should have ordered them years ago like Apple did. Oh I forgot, the Playbook was conceived the day after Apple launched iPod 1. I guess it sucks to be a follower.
